About Us
About
RENFREW PREP was established with the thought of developing young student athletes in order to prepare them for their future careers at the NCAA, U-SPORT and College level. With the experience of our staff we are committed to drive and deliver the best results for our athletes. We are looking to promote basketball within the community by working closely with the town of Renfrew and are planning to be involved in many community activities where our players and coaching staff will be involved.
RENFREW PREP provides a rural alternative to urban prep academies. Here, we limit the noise of urban surroundings and replace distraction with focus and determination. Education and basketball will be the focal point of the student-athletes, while embracing the rural environment of Renfrew, Ontario.
The RENFREW PREP vision is to be the number one elite academy that supports youth in academic, personal, and player development.
RENFREW PREP to compete nationally and internationally throughout the 2025/26 season

Our daily schedule
Morning session
Our A.M. sessions will be split into two types of mornings (Day 1 and Day 2). Day 1‘s will be a weight room sessions at the Fitness Centre in the Ma-te-way Centre and Day 2‘s will be skill development sessions. These sessions will be early mornings at 6:30 a.m. and will run till 7:30 a.m. leaving the student-athletes plenty of time to get to school for 8:10 a.m.
School
The school day runs from 8:10 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. which leaves students plenty of time to get to practice which will start at 3:00 p.m. (you are late as of 2:55 p.m.).
Practice Session
Currently, we have practice scheduled from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.; our practices will either be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. pending if we want to alternate days and times to allow students time after school to catch up with their work and touch base with their teachers. We want to ensure our student-athletes are on top of their school work as their education is our number one priority.
Evening Session
Our evening sessions will be a compilation and combination of film study, player development, recovery sessions in the weight room or shoot-arounds. These sessions will run from either 7-8 or 8-9 in accordance with the practice times. During the late summer/early fall these sessions will be player development and shoot-around sessions. As we get into mid-season form they will be active recovery sessions with customized personal development sessions. As we near games on the weekend and specifically playoff championships we will be studying film later in the week for preparation. We are using HUDL for the upcoming season for film software and plan to use it for both individual player development and team development.
Billeting and navigation
Billeting/Living Accommodations
Our student-athletes are placed with billet family homes for living accommodations during their stay here at Renfrew Prep. These families are asked to provide Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector checks. House visits are done by our organization to ensure that living conditions are appropriate for our student-athletes. The billets are to work in tandem with our organization and the student-athlete themselves to foster an educational learning environment where our athletes not only are looked after but contribute to looking after themselves by learning how to look after their own living quarters, cook simple meals and contribute to basic house-hold chores.
Navigation
One of the frequently asked questions that our program receives is: “How does a student-athlete get from one location to another during the day?” Great question! We work together as a team here at Renfrew Prep. One of the benefits of being located in a small community is that many places are within a comfortable walking distance, especially when weather permits. However, in combination with billets, coaching staff and local players with vehicles, we work together to ensure that all student-athletes are properly taken care of with appropriate transportation to where they need to get to.
Renfrew Prep Program
-
Our student athletes will be provided with elite-level coaching for both skills training and strength and conditioning. Our academy is stacked with all the resources players will need when it comes to athletic performance including player growth and development, mindset, sportsmanship, athleticism, and sport nutrition.
-
RENFREW PREP has academic advisors that work closely with student athletes to help navigate school and course selection, as well as provide assistance and/or additional resources for academics to ensure success. Whether we are travelling or at home, students will always have access to support.
-
Athletes enrolled in RENFREW PREP will be living with billet families (unless local). This means student athletes have the opportunity to build a sense of self and independence before entering College/University. Here, players will learn the basics of living on their own while still having support from their billet family. The expectation is that student athletes participate in basic chores and household duties, take initiative with their studies, and practice accountability and punctuality.
-
Athletes enrolled in RENFREW PREP will be expected to regularly volunteer their time by participating in after-school basketball programs (volunteer coaching and reffing youth programs and tournaments), and participating in community events. We emphasize the importance of volunteering and leadership as part of student-athlete development and believe these skills to be necessary for personal growth and future success.
