Tanner Kozun
Coach Tanner Kozun comes from humble beginnings where he was a strong volleyball and basketball player out of Carrot River, SK - a small rural community in the North East part of the province. Upon graduating high school, Coach Tanner attended the University of Regina in the Faculty of Education where he majored in Physical Education and minored in English Literature. Nearing the completion of his degree, Coach Tanner was fortunate enough to be placed at Sheldon Williams Collegiate in Regina, SK where he had the opportunity to work and coach the JR varsity boys Basketball team with highly regarded former University of Regina Assistant Coach and Basketball Saskatchewan Coach Darcy McKeown. Following his four year degree, Coach Tanner then accepted a full-time teaching contract in Tisdale, SK where he had the opportunity to coach the SR Boys basketball team and he improved his team’s record every season. The first season began with a 11-21 record; and in his last season finished with a 26-6 record. Coach Tanner was then recruited by renowned North American player development coach and Technical Director Coach Sean Tyson to Saskatoon, SK for the birth of his well established program Greenwave United (2017) and Saskatoon Basketball Academy (2018). Coach Sean provided a heavily detailed learning experience for Coach Tanner with a multitude of opportunities including coaching all ages of student-athletes from the U11 up to and including U18 club basketball. In 2018, Coach Sean included Coach Tanner in his Prep team SBA (Saskatoon Basketball Academy) where he had numerous jobs such as Academic Advisor, Strength and Conditioning Coach as well as an Assistant Coach; the team competed in the NPA and was a nationally ranked top 25 team in Canada. Coach Tanner is probably most known for his 2019 Greenwave United U18 team where they experienced a high level of success finishing the season with winning over 90% of their total games played across Western Canada. In his last 3 years, Coach Tanner has spent his time developing and coaching players with Greenwave United by expanding their reach of influence to the southern part of Saskatchewan, primarily in Estevan, SK where he coached the SR Boys basketball team. We are excited that Coach Tanner has decided to move to the Ottawa Valley area to now Head Coach Renfrew Prep’s national team that will compete in the Ottawa Super League as well as the NPH Showcase Division 1 league.
